Carl Melvin Holland born on 01 July 1986, the founder of 029 Music 1 started freestyling in 1997 at the age of 11 years old and it's funny because my friends had a freestyle battle against boys in their class. A girl came running up to me and called me without anyone including myself ever hearing me freestyle before and at that moment I could suddenly freestyle and won the battle for my crew which led me to write lyrics from that day on, as the years past I started freestyling for my friends more often and even for my soccer team mates and school events.
I started working more on my writing and wrote poems for my classmates and wrote a few books full of lyrics which in the end got lost before I could publish and in 2007.
When my mom past on, I had to seek employment and was employed for a while but decided to pursue my music career instead.
The freestyling for my friends reached a point where they caught interest in the art and in 2010 we formed a group named Kavukyside and released our first self-titled mix tape, the mixtape was low quality but made impact reaching several provinces. With two new crew members we managed to release another two mixtapes called “Blind Side” and “Ntongo”
We released our first music video called “Hands Up” that made us more fierce competition to our rivals and led us to be compared with more famous artist in the Afrikaans hip-hop game.
In the 3 years from 2010 to 2012 we traveled a few cities in South Africa named Cape Town, Eldorado Park, Coronation, Welkom, Bloemfontein, Potchefstroom, Orkney, Jouberton and Kanana doing Live Events, Parties and Competitions.
We entered the “Can Do” talent completion, during traveling period and were honored to have shared stage with some of the biggest Afrikaans artist in the industry example: Isaac Mutant, Hemelbesem, Meli-Grey, Jitsvinger, Juanita Louw, Costa Titch, Blaklez, Maglera Doe Boy and Afrikaans Ruk etc…
I was fortunate enough to have opened for Ltido and got the opportunity to form a relationship with Hemelbesem, Hemelbesem arranged an invite to the 2012 Hip-Hop Indaba Freestyle battles where I finished as a runner up as individual.
029 Music 1 recently started clothing line named after the founder Carl Melvin Holland labeled as 029 Music 1 with slogan as “Net Waarheid Masekind” inspired by the music produced and the streets.
